The ingestible tablet used to track psychological data
This may sound like technology gone mad, but U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a medication that can digitally track whether patients have taken their tablet.
The technology behind this is called digital ingestion tracking system, the medication is currently only for people diagnosed with certain kinds of mental illness.
This is not a new drug it has been on the market for over ten years to treat patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.
The medication has a tiny ingestible sensor inside each tablet which is the size of a grain of sand, made from magnesium and copper
Who does it work? The Patient wears a patch on their body when they take the tablet and it starts to dissolves in the stomach the patch picks up the signal and sends a message via a mobile phone App to a web server where the GP or Hospital can view the data to help manage the mental illness.
The Company has also developed an ingestible sensor can be used to track psychological data, like the person’s activity level.
